Maria Rosas, age 65, of Austin, Texas passed away peacefully of natural causes on Monday, May 14, 2013. She was the beloved mother of Adrian Rosas and Katherine Rosas Simon of Austin, Texas. She is survived by her two children; her three brothers, Frank Garcia, Fred Garcia, Arturo Garcia; and her ex-spouse, Homero Rosas.
Maria was born in Beeville, Texas but spent the majority of her life in Corpus Christi, Texas where she graduated from Carroll High School. She moved to Austin in 2007 and fully embraced Austin as her home.
Maria was a retired special needs teacher from the Corpus Christi Independent School District and so enjoyed caring for and educating "her" kids. She adored children both young in age and young at heart. She thought the world of her family, especially her grandchildren whom she called her "grandbabies", who were the loves of her live. She loved her friends, gardening, dogs, a cup of coffee with lots of cream, watching football, shopping, dancing, great food, a good book, word puzzles, music of all kinds and cooking for her loved ones. It's a well-known fact that her Thanksgiving stuffing was the best in the known universe. Maria was a huge Texas Longhorn fan and watched her Horns religiously, especially on the football field and on the baseball diamond. A game rarely went by without a call to her son and daughter about how the Horns performed. But her favorite thing above all and her favorite role in life was being a Grandmother. She loved spending time with and spoiling her three grandbabies. She just adored being "Nani" to her grandbabies and her grandbabies absolutely adored her.
At Maria's request, there will be a Memorial Service for all family and friends on May 25, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 2620 South Congress Avenue Austin, Texas 78704.
