
Marian B. Mayberry Marian B. Mayberry, a longtime resident of the Clairmont Retirement Home in Austin, died Monday night at the age of 97. She was born to Willis and Avice Bolinger on January 18, 1907, in Great Bend, Kansas. She was raised in Kansas and attended Kansas University where she was affiliated with Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. On August 11, 1929, she married Willard Mayberry of Emporia, KS, who became prominent in Republican politics. In the 1930s they moved to Elkhart, KS, where they had purchased the Elkhart Tri State News and soon followed with other business ventures, including a car dealership, rental properties, and ranching. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and two sisters, Betty Carey of Indiana and Margaret Eldredge of Great Bend. Survivors include two daughters, Marilyn Hilgers of Arvada, CO, and Jocelyn (Jolly) Schram of Austin, TX. Grandchildren include Mike, Shauna, and Matt Hilgers, all of the Denver, CO area, Peter Schram of San Antonio, TX and Christy (Mrs. Daren) Ross of Austin, TX. She also leaves 12 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Mayberry was an active member of the PEO sisterhood and supported numerous scholarships at Emporia State University (KS). She had served while in Elkhart as an officer of the library board and in the womens circles of the Methodist Church. Services will be held in the Elkhart Memorial Cemetery on Friday afternoon.
