Marie was born on July 19, 1929, in Temple, Texas, at Scott & White Hospital to Victor Lehotsky Sr. and Lydia Spanhel Lehotsky. She graduated from Temple High School in 1946.
As a young girl, Marie was baptized at Memorial Baptist Church in Temple, beginning a lifelong relationship with Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior. Her Christian faith remained at the center of her life and guided the way she loved and cared for her family and others.
In 1959, Marie married Robert "Bob" Sherman in Waco, Texas. Their son, Gregory Bart Sherman, was born in Temple in 1967. Marie became a stay-at-home mother and devoted herself to raising Bart and caring for her family.
Her heart was always in the church, and the church she loved most was Immanuel Baptist Church in Temple. Marie was very active in the church and had a special love for children. For many years, she served as the Sunday School director for preschool children. It was the perfect place for Marie because she loved children, and they loved her.
Later in life, Marie decided to pursue a college education, attending the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas, where she earned her bachelor's degree in Business Administration in 1979.
After graduating from college, Marie worked alongside her husband Bob, helping manage Sherman's Orthotics in Temple for approximately ten years.
In 2001, Bob and Marie moved to Austin to be close to their son Bart and his wife, Tracy. Once in Austin, Marie attended Hyde Park Baptist Church and later Highland Park Baptist Church.
Marie will be remembered for her deep Christian faith, her devotion to her family, her love of children, and the kindness and warmth she shared with those around her. She lived a long and blessed life centered on faith and family, and those who loved her will carry her memory with them always.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Robert "Bob" Sherman; her daughter, Sue Cervenka of Austin; her father, Victor Lehotsky Sr.; her mother, Lydia Spanhel Lehotsky; and her brother, Victor Lehotsky Jr. of Houston.
She is survived by her son, Bart Sherman, and his wife, Tracy, of Austin; her niece, Janelle Gillespie, and nephew, Mark Gillespie, both of Houston; her nephew, Walt Lehotsky of Lafayette, Louisiana; her granddaughter, Jill Shackelford, and her husband, Sam; and her grandson, Joe "Little Joe" Jackson, and his wife, Leslie, all of Austin.
Marie's life was a beautiful example of faith, family, devotion, and love. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those whose lives she touched.
