She was born July 30, 1927 in Brooklyn, New York to Harry and Marguerite Wooley. After graduating High School, Marilyn worked in New York City at Woolworths, New York Stock Exchange and New York Bell Telephone with her older sister, Marie.
In 1948, she married Frank Whitaker Jr. and they were married 48 years until his death in 1996. They had three children; Frank III, Candice and Tim. Marilyn also had four grandchildren; Katie, Laurie, Kristen, Kimberley and a great-grandchild on the way.
She moved to Austin in 2005 to live with her son, Frank and his wife Pauline. Marilyn also considered Pauline's sons; Robert, Ryan and Ron to be her grandchildren.
Marilyn’s family and friends were blessed by her kind and gentle nature. In her later years, despite physical limitations, she always had a positive outlook and an encouraging word to everyone she came in contact with.
Her family is especially appreciative to West Oaks Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Austin for their excellent care and attention. For those who would like to make a donation in Marilyn’s memory may do so to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, www.nami.org.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date, at The Washington Chapel in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, where her husband was laid to rest.
