Marion Grace Hollingshead went home August 6, 2014 of natural causes. Born in Covington, OK on April 10, 1922 to John and Inez Bish, her family moved to Texas in the mid-1920's, with her father being one of the pioneers in the Texas oil business. Marion graduated from Alvin High School in 1940, and then received a Nursing certificate from St. Joseph Hospital - Houston in Dec 1942. Marion was married to Andrew "Holly" Hollingshead for 53 years, until he passed away in 1998. Marion and Holly moved to Austin in 1958, and have two sons, J. "Rocky" and wife (Elizabeth) of Sugar Land and Joe of Austin, granddaughters Ashley Moore of Denver, Co and Allison Banks of Austin, and a total 3 great grandchildren.
Marion was an auditor at the IRS/Austin for more than fifteen years and forced to retire, in 1974, due to heart issues, which allowed her to focus, for more than three decades, on community, charity and church related projects. Marion was named one of "Five who Care" in 2002, received numerous awards from her service as an ombudsman for the Texas Department of the Aging, service with Old Bakery Foundation, Manor Community Center (Travis County), Settles Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star, and others.
A truly solid leader, and blessing, for her family, her church, her community and so many that she helped whom she never met, creating a living example of "a life of service and humility" from one of the last of the Greatest Generation.
Mrs. Hollingshead will lie in state from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. with a scheduled visitation of family and friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 8th at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 North Lamar. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 9, 2014 in the Capital Parks Mausoleum Chapel, 14501 N. IH-35 in Pflugerville. Interment will follow in Capital Parks Cemetery.
