Marjorie W. Rogers

She was a National Merit Scholar in high school and graduated from nursing school at Rush Presbyterian Hospital in Chicago. It was here where she met and fell in love with her husband of 55 years, Dr. Stanley Francis Rogers. After Stanley completed residencies in Chicago and Boston and served in the U.S. Navy in the state of Washington, they created a home in Houston, Texas, where they raised their three children, Debbie, Patti and Rick. Stanley set up an obstetrics and gynecology medical practice while Marjorie quietly but tirelessly supported him. Her encouragement and love allowed Stanley to excel in his work and achieve his dreams, including being a founder of The Woman’s Hospital of Texas.

Marjorie enjoyed homemaking and was very talented at both sewing and knitting; her stitches were perfection! Marjorie was also known for having the “best-stocked“ pantry and fridge by her children’s Bellaire High School friends, something her grandchildren, Ledia, Mason, Sarah and Rebecca, would come to enjoy later on. Her grandchildren also fondly remember eating spaghetti dinners, playing cards, taking luxurious bubble baths in her tub and her magical Christmas celebrations. Marjorie was an avid reader and in her later years, she enjoyed watching baseball, something she had done growing up as a St. Louis Cardinal fan with her parents.

Marjorie was predeceased by Stanley. She is survived by her daughter Debbie Carroll and her husband Mike Wilkes, daughter Patti Frank and her husband Dennis, and son, Rick Rogers and his wife Evelyn. Marjorie’s grandchildren, Ledia, Mason, Sarah, Rebecca, Jeff, Wendy, Sam, and Walter, and her nine great grandchildren will miss her very much.

A graveside memorial service will be held at Memorial Oaks Cemetery at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2014.
