Martha C. Woody, 86, who was a loving wife of 63 years to her husband Rufus, died on Thursday, September 18, 2008. She was a beloved mother to her four children: Rufus III, Lou Kier, Andy, and Claire Loria; and a devoted grandmother (Madre) to her ten grandchildren. She was a Sunday school teacher, Girl Scout leader, active in the Texas Heritage Society Guild of Austin and volunteered at numerous hospitals nationwide as she relocated frequently during her husband's military career. While Rufus was overseas with his troops, Martha mentored and cared for their wives and families. She was active in the Chapel program at Bergstrom AFB and the outreach program of St. Alban's Episcopal Church. Martha volunteered for 25 years at Meals on Wheels. Visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday, September 22 at Wilke-Clay-Fish Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 23, at St. Alban's Episcopal Church, 11819 South I-35. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Hospice Austin's Christopher House, St. Alban's Building Fund, or Meals on Wheels of Austin.
