Born in Lubbock, Texas, his family moved to McAllen, Texas when he was 3 years old where his father was a Border Patrol Agent. His mother, an artist, took him to Art classes and introduced him to colors and materials, which he still used until the end of his days, materializing the influence that living in a small border town had on him. He studied Architecture at the University of Houston, and his architectural renderings with a twist of creative lighting and shadowing, were in high demand.
Marvin moved to Austin in the early 70's where he devoted the rest of his life to being an artist. He was truly a renaissance man as a sculptor, painter, animator, musician and author. He lived life on his terms, always creating, creating a wild and joyous ride for those around him, and often said, "I am the luckiest man in the world!"
Most days, you could find Marvin either in his backyard of the West Austin home he and Doris designed carving blocks of marble, or sitting at the piano at his home recording studio, breaking a boogie and trying his best to make you smile, always sharing his love/lust for finger joy… He and Doris hosted amazing musical and art gatherings to the joy and awe of their many friends
.
Marvin's complete collection of art and music can be viewed at (www.marvinkingtexasart.com).
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer a donation be made to www.myhaam.org, an organization focused on the mission of providing access to affordable health care for Austin's low income, uninsured working musicians, with a focus on prevention and wellness.
