On November 11, 2012, Mary Louise (Lou) Bowen went home to be with her Heavenly Father. She was born to the late Robert Emory Bates Sr. and the late Maye Fausett Bates in Arp, Texas. She graduated from High School in Corpus Christi and from Southwest Texas State University. She was married to the late Mat M. Bowen Sr. and is survived by her children, Mat M. Bowen Jr., Phyllis Bowen Chessher, son-in-law, Craig Chessher and sister Katherine Patterson. She had three grandchildren that she loved deeply, Hilary Bowen, Mat M. Bowen III and Chloe Chessher. Preceding her in death were her son Michael Bowen, sister Dorothy Stephens and brothers Robert and William Bates. She was a resident of Tomball for 43 years.
Mary Lou was a kind, loving and gentle Christian woman who loved to travel. She dedicated her life to serving the Lord and worked diligently for World Bible School where she helped teach the word of God to people around the world. She was a member of Tomball Church of Christ and Spring Creek Church of Christ. She was very involved with her Ladies' Bible Class and in the operation of the church food pantry, often marking bags at home while sitting in her favorite chair watching the Houston Astros or Rockets. As her health declined during her last years, she was unable to work at church, but never lost her passion and love for the Lord. Mary Lou was very proud of and passionate about her grandchildren, who called her Geep. She loved sports and was an avid fan of her son-in-laws football teams.
Many people loved her, and she will be missed very much.
