Mary Brown Freeman Dent Mary Brown Freeman Dent passed away on November 24, 2003. She was the only child of Dr. and Mrs. Benjamin Harvey Freeman of Garland, Texas. Mary Brown was a graduate of Garland High School, and of Baylor University, Waco, Texas. During her four years at Baylor she spent two summers studying out of State. In Mexico Citys English School she studied Mexican history and the forests of Mexico. In Boulder, Colorado she studied drama and took horseback riding. She taught English and Speech at Taylor High School for one year and at Coleman High School for three years before marrying Charles H. Dent. They enjoyed 64 years of married life together, two of which were spent in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, where Charles served with USAID as a consultant for teachers of English. Upon their return to Austin, they frequently entertained in their home honoring professors and students from Latin America. Mary Browns interests outside the home included Pan American Round Table of Austin, Kianns (Kiwanis Auxiliary), Fellowship Forum Sunday School Class at University United Methodist Church, and Tuesday Book Review Club. She will also be remembered by many friends as an avid, but friendly, bridge player. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a son, Charles Freeman Dent. She is survived by a son, John Lawrence Dent of Toronto, Canada; a granddaughter, Sabrina Dent of London, England; cousins Brown McGaughey, Wichita Falls, and Glenadine Pitts, Victoria; and a sister-in-law Bess Dent Davis, Henderson, Texas. Graveside services will be held at Restland Memorial Park, Dallas, Texas on Monday, December 1, 2003 at 11:00 a.m., with Dr. Mike Dent, of Tyler, Texas officiating. A memorial service will be held at Westminster Manor, 4100 Jackson Avenue, Austin, on Thursday, December 4, 2003 at 2:00 p.m., also officiated by Dr. Mike Dent. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of ones choice. The family wishes to thank Georgia Zapalac, Patsy and Marshall Estorga, Maria Lupercio, Lenora Cantu and Mary Lou Bellinghausen for their many kind deeds and wonderful care for Mary during her illness.
