Our deeply loved mother (known as Mimi to her grandchildren) Mary Lee Fry, passed away on the evening of June 16, 2018. Mary Lee was born in Corsicana, Texas on December 12, 1925. In 1945, Mary Lee married James Harold (“Jimmy”) Fry. As the wife of a military officer, she ventured to many places. She lived in London, England; Big Spring, Texas; Montgomery, Alabama; Taipei, Taiwan; Goldsboro, North Carolina, Abilene, Texas; and settled in Austin. Mary Lee was baptized into Christ at the age of 12; she served in the capacity of an Elder’s wife, ladies bible class teacher, and started a widows group following the death of her husband. She was a charter member of Westover Hills Church of Christ in Austin.
Mary Lee loved her family and friends. She cared for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She also loved and cared for foster children. She was a gifted gardener; if she touched it, it would grow. Her house was “home” where all were welcomed. While she was gifted at maintaining a beautiful home, she could also be found hiking into the Colorado mountains for a little fishing time. She enjoyed her Mexican food, diet coke, and especially a bowl of vanilla ice cream.
Mary Lee was predeceased by her father Homer Carter Stephens, mother Rosa Belle Herrington Stephens, brother Homer Stephens, Jr., brother Charles Stephens, husband, Jim Fry, son David Fry, daughter Donna Fry, and grandson Tyler Fry. She is survived by her sister Joanne Rosser, daughter Kerry Hise and her husband Paul, son Sean Fry and his wife Penny, her grandchildren: Joel Fry, Austin Fry and wife Lulu, Andrea Whiteside and husband Paul, Eric Hise and wife Alison, Ryan Hise, Carly Hise, Sara Miller and husband Max, Michael Fry, Jeremy Kawaja and Colton Fry. Also, she is survived by 7 great grandchildren. Our family would like to express our appreciation to all who cared for and loved Mary Lee.
