Mary Mikeska, age 67, passed away peacefully at home on November 26, 2021 surrounded by loved ones, after a sudden and courageous battle with brain cancer. Mary was born on August 27,1954 in Dallas, TX, attended R.L. Turner High School in Farmers Branch, TX, and moved to Austin to attend the University of Texas where she majored in Spanish.
Mary was a devoted mother and a caring and uproarious friend. She is survived by her loving husband of 41 years, Brian Mikeska, her two daughters and their husbands, Amy Kathleen Mikeska and Adam Soroka, and Colleen Marie Mikeska and David Vassallo, her five grandchildren, Elias, Moira, Marigold, Sonny, and Ozzy, her siblings Susan Shackelford, Monica Shackelford Otis, Mark Shackelford, and Judy Shackelford Steckman, and several adoring sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews. Her son Jeffrey Andrew Mikeska preceded her in death 2009.
Mary excelled as the International Student Program Coordinator & LLM Program Coordinator for UT Law and cherished the relationships she built with students and staff. She had an exceptional faith, a deep love of family and friends, was a talented and artistic quilter, and was an active member of the Austin Area Quilt Guild.
A memorial service and Mass will be held at St. Theresa's Catholic Church, 4311 Small Dr, on Monday December 6 at 10am, followed by a reception. A rosary in honor of Mary will precede the funeral service at 9:15am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Jeffrey Andrew Mikeska Presidential Scholarship in Aerospace Engineering at UT, the Mary Mikeska LLM Scholarship at UT Law School, or The Glioblastoma Foundation.
