

In the early morning hours of Sunday, June 26, 2011, Nannie Nichols peacefully passed from this life into the next, leaving a void in the lives of all who knew and loved her. She is forever in a better place.
She was born on January 19, 1920, to Fred and Dollie Archer of Arab, Alabama. She was one of eight children.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, former Austin city councilman R.A. "Dick" Nichols; five year old great-granddaughter, Libbie Nichols; sister, Mildred Vick; and brothers, Alton Archer, Wilson Archer, and Jewel Archer.
She is survived by son, Fred Nichols of Austin; daughter, Mary Sue Fleming of Schertz; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Sally Nichols of Austin; daughter and son-in-law, Annabelle and Ronnie Lindholm of Nederland; stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Garland and Janet Nichols of Harlingen; brother and sister-in-law, Dick and Sarah Archer of Crossville, Tennessee; brother, Bill Archer of Austin; brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Judy Archer of Buchanan Dam; sister-in-law, Sybil Archer of Austin; sister-in-law, Isabel Archer of Kingsland; ten grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary was a long time resident of Austin, a member of Grace United Methodist Church, and retired from the State of Texas as an employee of the Texas Cosmetology Commission. Her lifelong occupation from which she never retired was that of mother and grandmother.
The family wishes to say a very special thank you to Cindy Holmes, Louise Mills, and Maria Ruiz of Heavenly Caregivers for the outstanding attention, care, and love they gave our mother during the recent months. The family also wishes to thank Odyssey Hospice of Austin for their assistance in helping to insure the best possible quality of life for our Mother.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Thursday, June 30, 2011 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 1, 2011 in the Chapel of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks with Reverend Jeannie Whitehurst officiating. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park.
Honoring Nannie as pall bearers will be her grandsons, James Richard Fleming, John Richard Nichols, David Wayne Nichols, Brandon Wesley Fleming, Richard Abernathy Nichols II, Kenneth Archer Nichols, Jr., and David Matthew Story.
