

Mary Virginia Williams 1910-2008 Mary Virginia Maloy Williams, beloved mother, grandmother, and "Aunt Mary", grew up in Norman, Oklahoma, lived in Amarillo, Texas for over 40 years, then resided in Dallas for 16 years, and moved to Austin in December, 2007. She was an active member of the community wherever she found herself. A graduate of the University of Oklahoma and recipient of the Leitzizer medal, she married Roland L. Williams in 1929 and lived happily with him until his death in 1974. Their sons, Joseph T. and R. Terrence were in Dallas and are now in Amarillo and Austin respectively. Their daughter, Mary Nell Mathis, lives in Austin. A first son, John Roland, died at age two. Mrs. Williams began her civic work in Oklahoma City as President of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. In Amarillo, where she served as Executive Assistant to the President of Amarillo College and to the Board of Regents, she was a member of the Hi-Plains Pilot Club, Las Amigas, Les Temps, and the Co-Workers Class at Polk Street United Methodist Church. In Dallas, she has been a member of the Criterion Club, the Highland Park United Methodist Church and the Town North Woman's Club. She lived for nine years at "21" Turtle Creek, just down the hall from her sister, Hettie Maloy Baum, who lived there for many years, until her death in 2003. Other survivors include eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; daughters-in-law MariLyn Williams and Cindy Williams and son-in-law Phillip Mathis; Dallas-area nieces Marge Westhafer, Terry Lundahl, Amy Lindsley, and nephew Richard Baum; and namesake Mary V. Johnson, of Hendersonville, North Carolina. As one of nine children of P.A. and Nettie Maloy, Mary Virginia has many other beloved nieces and nephews as well. She will be buried in Oklahoma City, Rosehill Cemetery. There will be a memorial service later at Highland Park Methodist Church in Dallas. Memorial gifts can be made in her honor to Amarillo College Scholarship Fund.
