Matthew William McClendon

Matthew William McClendon, beloved husband, stepfather, son & brother, passed away peacefully on September 14th, 2022 in Spicewood, TX. He was born on January 2nd, 1958 in Austin, Texas., the youngest child of Carl Nichols McClendon & Justine Heiling McClendon.

Matt graduated from Austin High School in 1977. After high school, Matt became an Electrician working on many large construction projects around the state of Texas. As his career progressed, he was promoted to a Project Manager on many large electrical projects including the restoration and expansion of the state capitol in Austin.

In the late 1980’s Matt met the love of his life, Kristen Holberg. They were married from the summer of 1989 until his death. Matt also loved Kris’ son, Matthew Kellas and raising him to love sports as much as himself. They lived in Austin until 2003 when they moved to a house in Spicewood, TX overlooking the lake.

Matt was a big Dallas Cowboys fan as well as a fan of UT football. He was a huge outdoor sportsman. Matt and Kris enjoyed tournament bass fishing together and Matt liked deer hunting, bird hunting and any sports connected with lakes or the ocean.

Matt worked as an Electrician and as a Project Manager for an electrical contracting company for many years. He then worked for over 23 years as Vice President and General Manager of Internal Control Systems in Austin, a corporate security contractor.

Matt is survived by his wife Kristen McClendon, brother Travis McClendon and his wife Kathy McClendon, sister-in law Susan McClendon, sister-in-law Cindy Metzroth and her husband Tom Metzroth, sister-in-law Kim Anderson and her husband Donnie Anderson, sister-in-law Kathy Holberg Briggs and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Carl McClendon, his mother Justine McClendon, his oldest brother Richard McClendon and his stepson Matthew Kellas.

The family will like for everyone to wear a mask due to Kris's health.
