Maurine Kauffman Simpson passed away September 16, 2007, surrounded by her family. Born October 23, 1916 in Liberty Hill, TX, Maurine lived in Austin for the last 75 years raising her 3 children, enjoying her 6 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. She briefly worked for the Texas Legislature and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. She was a member of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church and taught 5TH grade Sunday school. Mrs. Simpson was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-one years L. Worth Simpson; her parents Joseph Theodore Kauffman and Balla Whitehead Kauffman Walton, and John Walton (stepfather); her sisters Dorothy Augren and Rosalie Hanson; and brother David Walton. Mrs. Simpson spent her life devoted to home and family. She was talented and energetic about home improvements, gardening and cooking. The kitchen was her favorite "Command Post" where she enriched our lives with comfort food, family love, values, traditions, and unwavering support. She will be so greatly missed but the memories of our home on Cherry Lane will sustain our loss. Maurine is survived by her son L. Worth Simpson III and his wife Charlotte, son Daniel T. Simpson and his wife Karin, and daughter Luanne Dodge and her husband Lloyd. Fondly known as "MoMo" she is also survived by her six grandchildren: Daniel Simpson, Jr. and wife Monica, Stuart Simpson and wife Leslie, Adrian Bean and husband Jordan, Kimberly Simpson, Jonathan Simpson, and Michael Smith. Also surviving are brothers, Joe Kauffman Jr., Dan Walton, and Frank Walton, as well as four great grandchildren: George and Madeline Simpson, Finley Simpson, and Preston Bean and a number of nieces and nephews. Visitation with the family will be at Weed Corley-Fish Funeral Home from 5:30 pm to 8 pm. on Tuesday, September 18th. Graveside services will be private at Austin Memorial Park. The family wishes to express a sincere appreciation to Dr. Tom McHorse and the staff at Brighton Gardens for their kindness and assistance given to us all in recent years. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Heart to Heart Hospice at 4209 Capital of Texas Highway, Suite 120, Austin, Texas, 78704 or the Austin Humane Society.
