

Long time Austinite, Mavis Alexander Knox passed away June 20th, 2009. Mavis was born in Hearne, Texas on February 2nd, 1919 to Dr. and Mrs. S.J. Alexander. Mavis attended the University of Texas and Texas A&M College. In 1941 she married Arnold M. Reynolds who died soon after the birth of her two boys. Mavis remarried in 1953 to Austin attorney Will G. Knox and raised the combined family of "teenagers" in a sometimes, quite hectic household. Mavis worked as an early treasurer at the University Federal Credit Union and bookkeeper for several Austin businesses. Mavis was an avid gardener and always had beautiful rose gardens and an envious lawn. In her later years she was a sharp bridge player and loved to attend cattle auctions with her son. She was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Thomas, husbands Arnold M. Reynolds and Will G. Knox, Sr., and son Arnold M. Reynolds, Jr. Survivors are a brother, Silas J. Alexander and wife Julia of San Antonio, sons, Dr. James A. (Jamie) Reynolds of Bastrop, Will G. Knox and wife Ann of Albuquerque, daughters Patricia Coleman and husband Doug of Pensacola and Mollie Garitty of Dallas. She has five grandchildren and being the most elder of the Alexander clan, she was loved by numerous nieces, nephews and close cousins. Mavis related her appreciation in her last months to longtime friend Pam Emmert and her family for their attention and companionship along with very special neighbors Russ and Nuelda Ames and Lou Hoffacker. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2009, at Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel.
