Mehrdad passed away April 15, 2026. He is survived by his sons Darious and Cyrus, two sisters, nieces, dear childhood friends, college friends and his rowdy band of fellow naval officers whom he thought of as brothers.
In his childhood he spent much of his time in his father’s orchard where he developed a lifelong love of gardening. After graduating from the prestigious Alborz High School in Tehran, he joined a select group of young men recruited as officers for the Shah’s navy. He obtained both his naval training and university education in the U.S., graduating with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Villanova University. He returned to Iran to serve his country until the events of 1979 encouraged him to come back to the U.S. His mechanical engineering career ended at M.W. Kellogg in Houston. With the downturn of the economy, he was able to realize the American dream of starting and owning his own business. Combining his love of cars and his mechanical engineering expertise, he was able to open his own car business in Austin, Texas. The business still flourishes to this day in the able hands of his sons. One of Mehrdad’s proudest moments was when he became a U.S. citizen in 1990.
In 1983, Mehrdad met Monica Happe. They married in 1988 and welcomed Darious in 1989 and Cyrus in 1990. His sons were the love of his life and the source of his greatest pride.
Mehrdad was an energetic – his sons likened him to the Energizer Bunny - and driven businessman who never let problems or obstacles get in the way of his goals. He was generous, funny, outgoing and the life of the party. His jokes and impressions were legendary. He enjoyed travel and adventure, and spending time on the lakes in and around Austin was one of his greatest joys.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude's Hospital, or a tree may be planted in his honor.
