

Melba N. Hendrix, 89, of Austin, Texas, passed away on June 13, 2025, in Kyle, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Ferol Neely, her husband, Fillmore W. Hendrix Jr., and her son, Jon Leigh Hendrix.
Melba Dean Hendrix was born in San Saba, Texas, on August 18, 1935, to proud parents, Arthur R. Neely and Ferol Adeline Harris-Neely. She was an excellent student and graduated from Texas Tech University, where she met her future husband, Fill Hendrix. Fill and Melba were married on February 2, 1957, in San Saba, Texas, and she was a devoted wife and mother. Melba also had a successful career in administration. Melba held various positions in the State of Texas Board of Insurance until she settled in as the Executive Assistant to the State Commissioner of Insurance where her managerial and people skills shone for many years until she retired. Melba was a Christian and was active in her local church as well as in many civic and community organizations that promoted family and her faith. Melba enjoyed reading and writing, especially poems and published “The Delight of the Father and other Lyrics”, a collection of lyrical poetry reflections based on the Bible. Melba was a trusted and unwavering friend who showed patience and kindness to all those around her. Her grace, her strength and her gentle and quiet spirit will be missed by all who knew her.
A Graveside service will be held at Cook Walden, Forest Oaks Memorial Park, 6300 William Cannon Drive, Austin, Texas 78749, 512-892-1172 on Thursday, June 19th, 2025 at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity.
