

Melba Martin Jones of Austin, Texas, born October 10th, 1915 died on the 23rd day of April, 2008 at the age of 92. She was the daughter of Sterling Price Martin and Adie Jane Backus of Bangs, Texas. Melba was the youngest of eleven children and was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-seven years, Richard Paul (Dick) Jones. She is survived by her daughter Janela Jones Barnes and fiancé' Richard Spiller of Georgetown, Grandson Brett Krause and his wife Teresa of Round Rock and many nieces and nephews. Melba and family friend Lacy Morgan Jr. founded Travis Tile Sales, Inc. on August 14, 1954. She was very proud of the business and helped guide it through good times and bad. She sold the company shortly after husband Dick's death in 2003. She was an active member of the Saint David's Hospital Women's Auxiliary, the Wednesday Morning Music Club and the Fiscal Fun Women's Investment Club. Melba enjoyed her life, family and friends. She loved them all very much and never missed an opportunity to let them know. Melba had a great love of music and enjoyed playing the piano. Her family will remember her as an unselfish, kind and a very generous person, always putting others' needs in front of her own. She will be truly missed by her family and friends, but enthusiastically welcomed by those who have gone before her. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of St. David's South Austin Hospital for their support. A special thanks to Dr. Sara Bartos. Dr. Bartos primary care of Melba went above and beyond the call on so many occasions and was unparalleled for so many years. The treatment she provided Melba was truly a credit to her character as well as her profession and Melba and the family were blessed to have her attention. Melba was also blessed by care givers Micki and Junior, Violet, Nita and Beverly for their help and patience. They provided invaluable support over the years and truly made Melba's life as easy and comfortable as possible. Their efforts are appreciated more than they will ever know. Box 520 Bangs, Texas 76823 A family graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 26th at 11:00 am at Bangs Cemetery in Bangs, Texas. The service will be officiated by Craig Churchill with the eulogy by Mike Sanders. All family and friends will be considered honorary pallbearers.
