Melva Kirchhof Ellison, age 97, of Austin passed away Sunday, November 14, 2010. She was born into the loving family of Karl and Augusta Schmidt Kirchhof on August 23, 1913, in the community of Rogers Ranch in Caldwell County, Texas. Her maternal great-grandparents, Jacob and Katherine Klees Schmidt, and August and Katherine Ebberling Wolfshohl, immigrated to New Braunfels, Texas, from Germany in 1845. She was a member of the James George Chapter Daughters of the Republic of Texas.
Melva was very kind and loving. She grew up on the family farm sharing in the hard work, and playing “42" in the evenings. A game she learned at seven and played for ninety years.
Melva was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Melvin N. Ellison. They loved to travel, and took road trips all across the U. S. and Spain before his death. Also, preceding her in death were her parents, her sister, Wilma Schleicher, her brother, Charles H. Kirchhof, and her son-in-law Wm. A. White, Sr.
Survivors include her daughters: Clarice Elaine White of Cedar Park, Carolyn King and husband Jimmy of Austin, and Margaret Orgish and husband Thomas of Red Oak, Texas; her sister, Irene Dromgoole of Richmond, Texas; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her body will lie in state from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 16th at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, North Lamar. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 17th at Faith Lutheran Church, where she had been a member for almost 40 years. Pastor Bill Krejci will officiate. Burial will follow in Memorial Hill Park, Pflugerville.
