Michael Wayne Calnan was born in Bryan, Texas on December 16, 1973 to Tom and Gayle Calnan. As a toddler, the family moved to Austin and Mike grew up making friends and running with his neighborhood pals.
Mike attended school in the Austin Independent School District and graduated from Lanier High School in 1992. It was at Lanier that he met the love of his life, Allison Taylor (although, let's face it, it took him a while to figure that one out).
His greatest joy growing up was spending time with his friends and fellow youth group members from Westover Hills Church of Christ. From summer camp to ski trips, mission trips, and Trek, to devotionals in someone's home, Mike's faith in God was developed and strengthened with this special group of people whom he loved.
After high school, Mike attended Texas State Technical College in Waco and studied auto mechanics. On weekends, he would return to Austin to work at Wally's Burger Express or Macaroni Grill and dance until dawn downtown.
After completing his studies at TSTC, Mike moved home to Austin and began his career "turning wrenches." His career took him from Jiffy Lube to Yellow Cab to Covert Jeep and finally to the City of Austin where he worked his way up to Fleet Services Supervisor.
In 2005, he finally got serious about Allison and they were married in 2007. For sixteen years, they lived, loved, and shared all of the joys and heartaches that married life can bring. He was her husband, best friend, and hero.
God called Mike home on August 4, 2023. He is survived by his much-loved wife, Allison, mother, Gayle Calnan, father and step-mother, Tom and Kathy Calnan, sister Tammy Frerot (Daniel), mother-in-law Sue Taylor, sister-in-law, Shannon Taylor, brother-in-law, Tyler Taylor (Sara) and lots of beloved nieces and nephews. He is also survived by an amazing group of friends that are so close, Mike liked to call them "framily."
Mike was a big guy with a big heart and, if you knew him, you had a friend for life.
