Michael Jude Fisher of Austin, Texas passed away August 1, 2018. He was born in Odessa,Texas on September 15, 1951; the seventh of ten children. Mike was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church which filled his spirit and strengthened his kind heart.
Once retiring from the University of Texas as an electrician, he spent most of his time volunteering, being involved in prayer meetings and working with the Knights of Columbus helping his local community. The Knights of Columbus was a very influential part of Mike’s life. As a result he had just as many friends crowded around his bed as his family. Mike was artistic, creative, enjoyed gardening and being in nature. All of these attributes he passed on to his daughters and granddaughter. A single father to three daughters shows just how strong of a man he was. His daughters like to say “He was the best dad three girls could ask for.”
Something one of Mike’s nieces said recently which couldn’t be more true, “His quiet spirit and infectious laugh made him stand out in a crowd of loud Fishers.” Mike is quiet, faithful, strong and one of the nicest, giving men we know.
He had a childlike quality with his humor, impressions such as Donald Duck, and a genuine love of life and laughter. He kept all those things till the end.
Mike is survived by his daughters, Heather Fisher, Nicole Fisher and Becca Atkinson; granddaughter, Brodie Truan; honorary daughter, Amberlee Eason; honorary grandchildren; Lexi & Connor; six brothers and a sister Susie.
Services will be held at St. Louis Catholic Church on Friday August 10, 2018 at 11:00 am. The burial will be in Durango Colorado at a later date. More information to follow.
In lieu of flowers his family would greatly appreciate donations being made to local food banks or the St. Louis food bank in Mike’s honor.
