Michael Banks Flenniken was born to Arthur Fletcher Flenniken and Marguerite Ceils Banks Flenniken on March 10, 1941, in Bell County, Texas. He passed away peacefully and comfortably on May 2, 2016, at the age of 75.
Mike Flenniken graduated from William B. Travis High School in 1959, and spent his entire life in Texas, working at many different jobs over the years. Mike finished his career working for the State of Texas, in the Worker’s Comp division.
Mike was a gentle and kind soul, who enjoyed spending time with family and helping out anyone who was in need. He enjoyed working on things with his hands, from fixing things around the house to helping repair cars. He had a witty sense of humor and a great story-telling personality. An avid fan of music, Mike could be found often strumming chords on his ukulele and dancing at the Broken Spoke. He absolutely enjoyed everything to do with geology, and found deep pleasure in taking hikes to look at rocks, and of course bringing along his medal-detector to search for buried treasure - his favorite hobby.
Mike loved his two sons, Brian and Jason, with all his heart. Mike loved taking his sons on trips to the quarter arcades playing video games, and most especially taking them on long walks up and down the Little and Big Stacy creek and park system, and swimming at Big Stacy pool. Mike enjoyed Zilker Park as well, taking his grandkids on the train and playing with them on the playground. Mike also enjoyed watching sports on television, especially UT football.
Mike will be missed deeply by all of his surviving friends and family. He leaves behind his two sons, Brian Fletcher Flenniken of May, Texas and Jason Harrison Flenniken of Austin, Texas; his ex-wife of 10 years Judy Harrison Flenniken; five grandchildren: Cora Flenniken, Connor Flenniken, and Chris Flenniken all of May, Texas; Dylan Flenniken and Pearl Flenniken of Austin, Texas, as well as a host of living relatives from across Texas and Colorado, who will all miss him very deeply.
There will be a graveside remembrance on Saturday, June 4, 2016, beginning at 2:00pm at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park, where Mike will be interred thereafter.
