Michael Glenn Haehnel passed away from respiratory failure on Monday evening, January 17, 2022. He was 74 years old. Mike was born in Austin, Texas on April 18, 1947 to Philip (Sonny) Haehnel and Alice Sternnadl Haehnel, who precede him in death. Mike is also preceded in death by his beloved brother David Haehnel, his sister-in-law, Judy Haehnel and his nephew, Steven Haehnel. Michael is survived by his niece, Leslie Haehnel Miller, great-niece Rebekah Miller, great nephew Jeffrey Haehnel and his family, and great nephews Dennis Rethwisch, David Haehnel and Matthew Haehnel.
Michael resided at the Marbridge Complex in Manchaca for over 25 years. He worked as a busboy at Onion Creek Country Club for several years, participated in Special Olympics (and won several ribbons) and became the symbol of joy and love for his Marbridge Family in spite of his many health challenges. Mike was a gentle soul who loved all animals, art activities and eating the fried ice cream at the Texican Café. Finally, Mike loved old western movies, the University of Texas sports teams and the Dallas Cowboys.
We will remember Michael at his graveside service at Assumption Cemetery, 3650 S. Interstate 35, Austin, Texas 78704 on Saturday, January 29th at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Megan Otto officiating. All who knew and loved Michael are welcome to attend. Please take COVID precautions and wear a mask if able.
We would like to thank Duncan Murray and his staff at Marbridge Villa for the wonderful life Michael had during his few years there. We would also like to thank Marcus Mercer and his staff at the Marbridge Senior Dorm where Michael lived for many years, and for everyone who became his family at the Marbridge Ranch.
