Michael W. Wallgren

Michael Wallgren of Austin, Texas passed away on August 6, 2026 at the age of 73. He was born on February 10, 1953 in Sumter, South Carolina. He was a loving husband and father, who enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking, and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Caroline, and his brother, Larry. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Martha Wallgren; brothers Chuck (Candy) Wallgren, Brian Wallgren and Bruce (Pam) Wallgren; children Joshua Wallgren and Megan (Bryan) Huddleston, and six grandchildren.

His young life included traveling around the world and the US with his brothers and his mother, while their dad served in the United States Air Force. This gave him confidence to thrive in any environment. Growing up, Mike enjoyed many summers at his grandparents cattle ranch in Oklahoma with his 4 brothers, many cousins, and countless hands. He often referred to his summers there as the best and hardest working times of their lives. These summers defined for him that hard work yields big rewards. Mike has never been idle at work since.

During his philosophy studies at Southwest Texas State University, he joined the college's first recycling program where he met his beloved Marty during the club's first meeting. He had red converse hightops and she had feminism! Shortly after, they were married and had two children. Mike moved his family and carpentry skills to Austin, Texas in 1986 to continue his career as a woodworker. His craft quickly evolved to all aspects of finish carpentry including custom cabinetry. At the end of a nearly 45 year career, Mike was a sought-after master cabinet maker and custom woodworker. Looking around Austin you will see his work in some of this area's most popular restaurants and well-known commercial spaces. You will also see his work showcased in custom residential builds and remodels throughout every corner of Austin.

Mike will be remembered most for his hard work, kindness to all, gentle stubbornness, and particularly for how much he loved his family. He also loved the San Antonio Spurs, Austin FC, and Dallas Cowboys. Not in that order and of course depending on the season!

Family and friends are invited to visit with his family on Tuesday, August 18 from 4-6 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 19 at 10 a.m. with a reception to follow.
