UT Pro Bene Meritis Award (2006), Professor Emeritus of Spanish and Comparative Literature at the University of Texas at Austin; Ph.D., Princeton, in Romance Languages and Literatures. Published and lectured on subjects in Spanish Peninsular, Latin American and English Literatures. More than ten collections of original poems in Spanish and in English. Translated prose and poetry from both languages. His biography, "Between Day and Night" by David Colon, was published by TCU Press in 2009, obtaining a press award.
Lived in Austin, married to Mexican writer Tita Valencia, yearly commuting to Mexico.
