Mike G. Gutierrez, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2026. He leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, dedication, and cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of his family for generations to come.
Mike was born in Austin, Texas, to Juan and Isabel Gutierrez, who preceded him in death. A proud American and devoted Marine, Mike answered the call to serve his country during the Korean War era. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in August 1951 and honorably served until August 1954. During his service, he was assigned to the 1st Marine Division, Fleet Marine Force, and completed Mine Warfare School. His service and dedication were recognized with several military honors, including the Korean Presidential Unit Citation, Korean Service Medal with two stars, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. Mike carried the pride of his service with him throughout his life.
After returning home from his military service, Mike married the love of his life, Gloria, beginning a lifelong journey filled with love, commitment, and family. He devoted himself to providing for those he loved and spent more than 30 years working as a brick mason. A skilled craftsman who took great pride in his work, Mike enjoyed pointing out buildings and structures throughout the Austin area that he helped build. His work became a lasting part of the community, a testament to his dedication, talent, and strong work ethic. His love for his family was reflected in the life he built, the sacrifices he made, and the example he set through his hard work, loyalty, and perseverance.
Beyond his work and responsibilities, Mike found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. His second love was fishing, especially in and around Rockport, Texas. The water, the outdoors, and the peaceful moments spent fishing brought him tremendous joy. Those trips to Rockport became the source of many treasured memories, shared stories, and special times with family that will be remembered for years to come.
He was preceded in death by his son, Louis; his parents, Juan and Isabel Gutierrez; and other siblings.
Mike is survived by his loving wife, Gloria; his children, Mike, Joe, Sylvia, Rose Mary (and her husband Michael Soza), Cynthia (and her husband Frederico Fierro), and Christina (and her husband William Poole). He is also survived by his sister, Clara; and several nieces, nephews, 20 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Mike leaves behind a lifetime of memories, stories, laughter, and love. He served his country with honor, worked tirelessly to provide for his family and built a life rooted in service, dedication, and love. He built a legacy that will continue through the generations who knew and loved him. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will live on in the hearts of his family forever.
Semper Fidelis, Mike. Your service, your love, and your legacy will never be forgotten.
