

Mildred Mary Mauzy Burdick, 89, passed from this life to her heavenly reward on Friday, December 19, 2008, after being in failing health for some time. She was born to Mildred Eva Kinkaid Mauzy and Harry Lincoln Mauzy, Sr. on October 2, 1919 in Houston, TX. She was married in 1939 to Lucious Herbert Burdick, who predeceased her in 1965. His work with the maintenance services for the Strategic Air Command fleet took them to Oklahoma City in 1942. They were divorced in1961. Mildred worked as school secretary at Dewey Elementary School in Oklahoma City. She then joined the Internal Revenue Service in 1956, was transferred to the Austin Regional Center in 1963. Retiring from the Service in 1982, she received the Albert Gallatin Award, the Treasury Department's highest length of service recognition. She then volunteered at Pease Elementary, Murchison Junior High and Anderson High School as her two granddaughters, Beverly and Jennifer, made their way through, also serving as a loving part-time caretaker for the girls. Mildred was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and a caring friend to many. She took pride in her work and her family. She was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church. The eldest daughter of eight Mauzy children, Mildred was predeceased by all her siblings: former State Supreme Court Justice and State Senator Oscar Mauzy; Albert, Bart, Fred, George and Harry Mauzy; and Ann Mauzy Vogt Lassmann. She is survived by her three children and their spouses: Dianne Burdick Edmondson, of Denton, TX and husband Bob; Leslie Burdick and wife Claudia of Greensboro, NC ; Richard Burdick and wife Beva of Austin; her grandchildren: Michael Edmondson of Argyle, TX; Laura Edmondson Candioto and husband David of Paradise, TX; Brent Edmondson of Hurst, TX; Dean Burdick of Bowie, TX, Kimberley Baum of Richland, NC; Beverly Burdick Juarez and husband Joe of Hutto, TX; and Jennifer Burdick of Austin; and six great grandchildren: Michael and Kendall Edmondson of Argyle, TX; Robert Edmondson of Nashville, TN; Cayden and Kendall Candioto of Paradise, TX and Mary Sara Juarez of Hutto, TX. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive her. She was preceded in death by her grandson Larry Burdick. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, December 21, 2008 at Ascension Lutheran Church, 6420 Hart Lane, Austin, Texas 78731 under the direction of Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Ascension Lutheran Church. The family wishes to thank the staff of Brighton Gardens, Gracy Woods, Odyssey and Lighthouse hospice services for their dedication to our mother and grandmother's well being. A special thanks to Pastor Brian Peterson and the congregation of Ascension Lutheran Church, as well as the Verity Class at Riverbend Church for their prayers and visits.
