Mills was born in Freeport, IL to Mills Elmer and Amy Glasgow Spangberg. He is survived by his wife Mary Spangberg, his son Kevin, grandchildren Sean Robinson of Austin, TX. Shelley Robinson of San Marcos, TX and Krystal Stalder and great-grandson Sean Mills Stalder of Ft. Worth, TX. He is preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Marilyn and recently his daughter Crystal Robinson of Marble Falls, TX. As he graduated High School, the Korean War was in progress and Mills joined the Navy. He was assigned to a ship which was stationed on the northeast coast of the United States.
Soon after he married his high school sweetheart Marilyn. After his time in the Navy, Mills and family moved to Michigan where he attended Michigan State University and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. He went to work for the Garrett Companies in Torrance, CA. Sometime later, he was transferred to the Houston area where his client was NASA and his main focus was Apollo and Gemini projects.
After Mills completed his work in Texas, he was transferred to Washington, DC and then to Fort Worth, TX and eventually back to California. Mills retired from Garrett Corp in 1998 and for 3 years took an advisory position with another aerospace company. His wife Marilyn passed away in 1995. He and Mary met some months later and were married in 1997 and moved to Austin, which is something that Mills wanted to do for a long time.
His Memorial Service will be held at Unity Church of the Hills, 9905 Anderson Mill Road, Austin, TX on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at 10:30 am.
