Let me tell you about Minnie Bell from a Sisters point of view, having known her longer than anyone else, I qualify. Once saw a cartoon that summed us good, little Sister says to big Sister, "You were not put on this earth to tell me what to do." Big Sister reply, "I wasn't?" That nails it very well. I was blessed to have had my Sister. We graduated from Waco High School, both went to work for Southwestern Bell. She worked as a Service Assistant training new operators, and supervising them when not training. She actually trained the first male operator in Austin. When Southwestern Bell went from "Operator Please" to dial there were too many employees. The two of us & several others chose Austin as a place to transfer to. She left many friends in Waco & memories of high school & Baylor football games. She did love football. Over the years she loved taking, vacations from work & she was the first of our friends that drove, she did love her cars. At one point in her career she & a friend decided, just for fun, to join the Air Force. She trained basic in San Antonio & was stationed at several different bases around the country. After three years she returned to her job with Southwestern Bell in Austin. She retired with forty plus years from that job. She was a part of a group of employees that did volunteer work at The Austin State Hospital. They gave birthday parties once a month & a Christmas party each year for a total of fifty years. She was very, very, good at helping people that needed help. She was a member at Hillcrest Baptist Church, was a member of the senior choir, & was involved in many activities. She loved taking trips with the seniors at Hillcrest. She was loved by many & that love was deserved. She was an animal lover, always had dogs & cats both. She even rode a mule once to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. I hope each of you had a Sister like mine, yes she told me what to do, but how blessed to have had a Sister like Minnie Bell. Would she have told me to write this, I doubt it? Watch for me my dear Sister, I will see you again.
