

Mose Ed Adcock, age 88, died after a long and valiant struggle with pulmonary and heart disease on March 26, 2004. He resided in Austin at Westminster Manor. Mr. Adcock was born in Buda, Texas on August 5, 1915. He retired April 1, 1978, after 32 years of employment with the Southern Union Gas Company. At the time of his retirement he was the Energy Conservation Consultant (Commercial and Industrial). He was an active member of St. Martins Evangelical Lutheran Church and had served as Vice-President of the congregation, Chairman of the Endowment Committee, and a member of the Church Council. He served in the Navy in World War II. He is a member of Hill City Lodge #456 AF and AM, Scottish Rite of Austin, and Ben Hur Shrine. He was a past President of the Downtown Optimist Club and he served as Secretary on the Board of Directors of the Austin Restaurant Association for 18 years. He was dedicated to civic work in Austin for many years. He was active in the work of the United Way, working with the Pilot Fund Campaign and serving as Chairman of the Employee Division and Board of Trustees for several years. He was also active in the Austin Chamber of Commerce Roundup Club, in Junior Achievement, and in the formation of the first Special Olympics, and he served as the Vice-Commodore for Manpower for the Austin Aqua Festival. He was preceded in death by his mother, Eula M. Adcock, by his father, E.V. Adcock, by his brother and sister-in-law, Everett and Louise Adcock, and by his younger brother, Howard Adcock. He is survived by his widow, Dorothy, his son, Howard Terry Adcock, his grandson and his wife, James B. (Jim) and Ellen Slive Adcock, and his great grandchildren, Noah Robert and Emilia Gabrielle Adcock, all of Austin, and by his grandson John C. Adcock, of Hobbs, New Mexico, as well as his loving sister-in-law, Virginia Adcock of Austin, and numerous and beloved other relatives and their families, including nieces, nephews, and cousins. As a faithful follower of Jesus, he was a friend to all those in need and a helper to all who knew and loved him. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 29, 2004, at St. Martins Evangelical Lutheran Church, at 15th and Rio Grande Streets, with Pastors Samuel D. Zumwalt and J. Glen Sandquist presiding. Pallbearers will be Jim Adcock, John Adcock, John Cain, Al Adcock, Karl Adcock, and Harry Bengtson. The family wishes to thank the faithful and persevering doctors who treated him and the kind and loving staff of Westminster Manor Health Care Center and Hospice of Austin who cared for him at the last.
