

Mitchell LaRue Banks, 76, passed away on Monday, December 16, 2013. He was born in Austin, Texas on October 24, 1937 to Martin Buford Banks, Sr. and Rose Ellen Mays Banks. As a young boy he got the life long nickname "Pooney". Mitchell attended L.L. Campbell Elementary, Kealing Junior High School and L.C. Anderson High School in Austin, Texas. He attended Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas and Huston-Tillotson College in Austin, Texas where is obtained a Bachelor's degree in Music. He was a musician, playing the drums and singing with various bands, including the Rhythm Kings. His musical career also included managing and booking bands and talent. He also worked at Gary Job Corp Center, Brackenridge Hospital and Huntsman Chemical Company (formerly Texaco Chemical Company). He loved fishing, camping, watching football and playing golf in his spare time. He married his high school sweetheart Barbara Overton at a young age and had two children, Sherri Denise and Rodney Demond. Then he married Mary Lillian Earls and had a daughter, Michelle Lynette, who he called "Missy". Later in life he married Anne Robinson. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Martin Banks, Jr.; sister, Faye Jewel Dukes; and wife, Ann Banks. He is survived by his sister Julia Banks; sister-in-law, Leslie Banks; three children: Sherri D. Jackson (Henry), Rodney Mayo and Michelle Banks; step-children: Anita Bush and Timothy Daniels; grandchildren: Terrance Holley, Michael Holley, Alex Mayo and Dewayne LaRue Bryant; step-grandchildren: Jynecia Hall and Kenneth Bush, Jr.; one great-grandson, Trayden Mayo; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
