

New Years baby Myrtle Noma Saunders was born January 1, 1916, in Driftwood, to Stephen Alexander Saunders and Ruth Jane Sprouse. The couple had six daughters and one son; Ruby, Florence, Alma, Myrtle, Nora, Ola, and Charles. Myrtle married Claude Ezekiel Odell on October 13, 1935. They had four children; Geneva Belle, Nancy May, Claude Jr., and Hal Dwayne. During their marriage they mainly lived in Buda, with Myrtle working in the lunchroom in the Buda School her children attended. Later she worked at Wesley Pearson until a car wreck forced her to retire at age 78. Myrtle was known for her wonderful fried chicken, her oatmeal raisin cookies, cornbread dressing .and her fast driving. Her family has many warm memories of the time spent with her. She spent her last years living with her son Claude and was cared for with much love by her granddaughter Karen. She is survived by her sons; Claude, Hal and wife Adeline; grandchildren, Tommy Odell, Mike Odell and wife Karen, Brad Odell, Lisa Jordan and husband Jim, Jeff Odell and wife Valerie, Julie Gibbs and husband Dane; great-grandchildren, Stephanie Brit and husband Charles, Brandon Odell, Audrey Odell, Colin Odell, Alana Jordan, Ethan Jordan, Tristan Jordan, Colton Odell, Korban Gibbs, and Callan Gibbs; sisters, Ruby Galbreath and Ola Acrey; and many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Tommy Odell, Mike Odell, Brad Odell, Jim Jordan, Jeff Odell, and Dane Gibbs. The family will receive friends from 6:00 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, September 5, 2006 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, September 6 at Wilke-Clay-Fish Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Live Oak Cemetery in Manchaca, TX.
