Nancy Teas Hardie, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 12, 2024, in Austin, Texas. Nancy was born on October 2, 1943, in Temple, Texas, to Joanna and Rollins Teas.
After growing up in Belton, Texas, Nancy attended the University of Texas at Austin. It was there, while singing her high school alma mater on a dining room chair at the Phi Psi House as an ADPi pledge, that she met the love of her life, Jim Hardie. They married in Austin on September 18, 1962, at University Methodist Church. While in Austin, she had her daughter Melisa and worked as a secretary while Jim finished college. After a few years in Austin, they moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where their son James (Jamie) was born. Finally settling in Dallas, she had their youngest son, Brett. This is where she and Jim raised their three children from 1968 to 1984.
Jim’s career took Nancy and Brett to Carlisle, Massachusetts, in 1984 for four years. This was a big adventure filled with many great memories for the whole family during their time in Massachusetts.
Nancy’s sense of humor and quick wit kept everyone laughing—no one could tell a joke like her. She was never short on opinions and always stood for what was right. Whether in business or personal matters, everyone knew they could turn to Nancy with any problem, and she would come up with the best solution, which was usually right. Nancy saw the good in people and led by example, helping strangers, friends, and family alike, caring for all. Her selflessness and generosity touched every aspect of life, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her.
Nancy was highly driven and motivated to succeed. She always exuded confidence and believed she could accomplish anything. She went above and beyond in all her business endeavors. From the late 1970s to early 1980s, she started her own successful design business in Dallas. She was a natural businesswoman, never afraid to take charge. After moving to Austin in 1988, she decided to pursue a career in real estate. This was her calling. She loved building relationships with her clients, as well as with her fellow agents and brokers. Everyone knew Nancy Hardie. Nancy was “Top Producer” several times in her real estate career. We were always so proud of her accomplishments. Her last 10 years in real estate were spent with Moreland Properties.
Nancy is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Jim Hardie; their children and spouses—daughter Melisa Cummings and her husband Ross, son James Hardie and his wife Lara, and son Brett Hardie; grandchildren Carson Cummings (1987-2012), Adair Cummings and her husband Nick, Hilton Hardie and his wife Julie, Ryan Shigematsu and her husband Ryo, and Drew Hardie; and great-grandchildren Carson, Bear, and Joanna Belisle. She is also survived by her brother, Dr. Sam Teas, and his wife Carolyn of Salado.
The world has lost an incredible soul, but we take solace knowing that Nancy will always live on in our hearts and minds, leaving a legacy of helping others and making them better for having known her. Her laughter, love of life, and ability to make everyone feel cherished will be sorely missed but never forgotten.
