Nancy, Mimi, and I go way back to our teaching days at Bowie High. We found 
commonalities that bound us together— our love of language, literature, and travel, our sense of adventure, and our only sons who were just a year or two apart. Once I left Bowie, Nancy and I became even closer when I homeschooled her son Jeff alongside our  son Nick for a few years.  Nancy, Mimi, and I continued to stay in touch. Our occasional nights out evolved into the Fine Dining Club (FDC)—our excuse to leave the guys at home so we could explore the adventures in dining Austin has to offer. Over the decades we enjoyed trying out new restaurants or returning to old haunts, sharing stories and laughter, supporting each other through challenging life events, and celebrating the many highlights that came our way. Nancy’s spirit will live on whenever we share a meal or raise a toast to friendship and love. We invite you to do the same in the spirit of FDC.

Nancy and my husband Bill’s cousin Ron - many good times shared in Austin and California over the years since I met Nancy in the late 1980s, as well as the sorrow of losses especially Jeff - I envision them reunited once again 

She was kind, bright, witty and full of life!  I will miss her all my days ❤️❤️

The last time I saw our beloved Nancy was 3 weeks ago.  She, Mary Olmstead and I had a standing FDC (Fine Dining Club) when we would get together for good food and laughter without our husbands, celebrating each other’s birthdays, successes, frustrations, whatever.  We even did an FDC trip to Seattle once.  I was fortunate to teach 2 classrooms away from her for 18 years at Bowie.  She became one of my best friends, always a good listener, never complaining and, on the rare occasion  when she would give advice, she was spot on.  Her sense of humor was fantastic, as was her taste in Austin music.  I miss her terribly, but know that she’s in a good place with Jeff.  God bless you, dear Nancy!

I met Nancy the first time she and Ron visited us in the late 80s - we loved one another from the first moment and had great times with Jeff and our sons Andy and Kevin.  Nancy was so kind, bright, witty and full of life!  I particularly remember a trip to New Orleans with Bill and Ron along with lots of music and dancing in the Austin clubs. Our hearts broke with hers when we lost Jeff and I want to envision her reunited with him now- I’ll miss her all my days ❤️❤️

I worked with Nancy when I moved to Austin to teach.  She was always there when I needed any sort of assistance. She was even there when I’d had a rough day and just needed a shoulder to cry on. After she retired we kept in touch and she would still offer her advice and help me out with lesson planning.  
I remember meeting up to have drinks on several (I lost count!) occasions to catch up on life and share stories! She would always ask me how my son was doing and we would talk about how much he’d grown up since she met him (even if it had only been a week since we last spoke!  Lol). 
We kind of grew out of touch because, well, the entire  world was put on hold for a while. 
  The night before I found out she passed I had a dream about her. I was going to message her to let her know when I read about her passing.  
Still hard to believe. She was a great person. You don’t meet people like her much these days. 
I’m glad I had the privilege to meet Nancy. May she rest in peace. ❤️

Nancy, my husband Donus and I took a trip to Germany and Prague. We were going to go back and trace our roots. We never made it to the old Schwertner home place but we had two weeks of fun and adventures. It is a trip I shall never forget.

We cousins had so many good times , getting together through the years. When we were younger, I always wanted to be as old or older than Nancy. I wanted to be just like her. My grandmother, Munnie , told me I would never be as old as Nancy. It crushed me! I really looked up to her all my life.

Nancy, was a wonderful woman.  I came into her life when I was a Sophomore in High School.  She was my Spanish Teacher and this was also the year she had Jeff.  Little did I know that after high school and my stint in the Navy our paths would cross again.  I answered an add in the paper where Nancy was looking for someone to look after Jeff from 3-6 in the afternoon (I was in the Navy Reserves and going to College at the time).  I called and we talked, and then she asked for my name and when I told her she just said oh my gosh...she remembered me.  Anyways, I came over to meet Jeff and the rest is history.  Jeff was like a little brother to me and I can honestly say this was one of the best jobs I ever had...I mean playing computer games and hanging outside where we would play football.  It would be Jeff and the neighborhood kids against me.  The highlight of some our afternoons would setting off some of Ron's homemade fireworks (neighbors were not a fan of the explosions though).  What a great time it was.  I miss Jeff and now I will miss Nancy.  Nancy and family were the best to me and were like family to me as well.  I am sorry for your losses Ron.  I know that Nancy and Jeff are together and catching up on things.  I will always be indebted to Ron, Nancy, Jeff, and of course Blacky (loyal dog).  I will always think fondly of my times with you all.  David Dockwiller

Nancy was such an inspiration as we taught together at Bowie. My fondest memory is laughing so much when she tried to teach me the samba!
