Nancy Elizabeth Prickett, 30, born March 18, 1996, and raised in Austin, Texas, passed away unexpectedly on April 19, 2026, after a long and arduous battle with Lyme disease. A daughter, sister, aunt, and individual of profound empathy, creativity, and unmatched kindness, Nancy’s life was a testament to the power of making others feel seen, heard, and deeply loved.
Nancy was a gifted musician who even as an infant, filled our home with her sweet voice. She loved listening and creating music and eventually attended and graduated from the Austin School for the Performing and Visual Arts, where she honed her musical skills and became a multitalented entertainer. Above all, she had a deep appreciation for music that moved the spirit, finding beauty across genres.
Nancy was an avid reader and lover of film. She cherished the simple joy of watching movies with her family and was known for the steady stream of funny reels she sent to loved ones to brighten their days. She was a lifelong devotee of the Harry Potter universe, perhaps because she shared the same brave and loyal heart as its heroes. She graduated from Concordia University Texas with a degree in Psychology, and had been preparing to pursue a Masters in Counseling, a path that perfectly reflected her nonjudgmental heart and innate ability to connect with people of all ages and backgrounds.
Nancy found magic in the everyday. She took pride in her community and in the traditions that brought people together, such as being presented as a debutante of the Helping Hand Home, Admiral’s Club of Austin, and the Bachelors’ Club of Austin. She spent her happiest moments outdoors, in the beauty of God’s creation, but especially loved hiking in Taos, swimming in the Frio River, and enjoying every possible sunset at the family ranch.
Above all, Nancy loved God and was steadfast in her faith. This spiritual foundation shaped her warm, welcoming spirit. Nancy had a cunningly smart sense of humor, often entertaining her family with her quick wit and battling her brothers in comebacks. Yet, she carried herself with such grace and poured her whole heart into everything she did. This included her relentless fight against Lyme disease and its effects. She exuded a quiet strength and resilience. Her role as a devoted aunt to her niece and nephew was something she immensely cherished and lived for sleepovers, dance parties, building forts, and countless viewings of their favorite Disney movies. She was an ever-constant animal lover, volunteering at animal shelters or serving as the “emotional support human” for her beloved dog, Quincy, and the family dog, Daisy.
Nancy used her words to heal, her music to inspire, and her presence to love. Her kindness knew no bounds. While she is missed beyond what words can express, we know she is finally healed and heaven is already brighter. As Albus Dumbledore in the Harry Potter books once said, “Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the lights.”
Nancy is preceded in death by her grandmother, Nancy Showers Slaughter of San Angelo, and honorary grandmother and cherished part of the family, Marina Rivera of San Luis Potosi.
She is survived by her parents, Susan and Lane Prickett of Austin; her brothers, Augustus Prickett of Austin, and Christopher Prickett and his wife, Julia Davis Prickett, of Corpus Christi; her niece and nephew, Nancy Lane “Lanie” Prickett and Christopher Archer “Kit” Prickett of Corpus Christi; her grandparents, Lon Slaughter of San Angelo, and Chris and Janeal Prickett of Odessa; her aunts and uncles, Christy Prickett King (Keith) of Odessa, Cynthia Slaughter McLaughlin (Brian) of Midland, Libby Slaughter Grafa (Dennis) of San Angelo, and Sydney Slaughter of Austin; her first cousins, Clayton King (Autumn) and Kyle King of Austin; Claire McLaughlin Statton (Monty), Blake McLaughlin (Michelle), and Annie McLaughlin Rubalcava (Logan) of Midland, and Kyle Grafa (Marah) and Sarah Grafa Black (Hayden) of San Angelo; as well as, close friend and cousin, Beth Granger (Tom) of Austin, lifelong member of the family, Eva Rivera, and Nancy’s faithful furry companion, Quincy.
She also leaves behind countless extended family, including great aunts, great uncles, cousins, and friends.
