

Neil was born on November 1, 1928 in Houston, Idaho to Guy and Helen Hopkins. He attended the College of Idaho and graduated from the University of Omaha. Neil enlisted in the US Army where he served in the Korean War. He retired, as a Lt. Col., in 1972 after a 24-year career.
Neil was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Austin where he was a faithful member of the choir. He was a long-time member of the Northeast Austin Kiwanis Club where he served as president. Neil also served as Lt. Gov. of the TX/OK District of Kiwanis International, 93-94.
He is predeceased by his wife, Jessie Lu Braga Hopkins. Neil is survived by his five daughters: Lula Green and husband Billy of Bastrop and their children Ryan, Greg and Jacob; Georgia Graham and husband Nic of Bellaire, Texas and their children Ian and Mary-Claire; Phyllis Hopkins and husband Charlie Hirst of Austin; Mary Geil and husband Glenn of Sugar Hill, Georgia and their children Adam, Brian and Colby and Carol Hopkins of Austin. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren and his brother, Ivan Hopkins of Shoshone, Idaho.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the skilled nursing staff at Brookdale-West Lake Hills and the staff at Waterloo Dialysis Center.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at First Presbyterian Church, 8001 Mesa Drive, Austin.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions are made to the First Presbyterian Church Organ Fund or the Texas/Oklahoma Kiwanis Foundation, 3010 West Park Row Dr., Pantego, TX 76013.
