Nell had a happy childhood with her loving parents, William Tensley Butler and Nellie A. Butler, and also many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. One of the many things that she enjoyed was a beautiful playhouse that her Daddy built for her and her friends to play in. She also had a sweet little Boston Terrier that she adored.
Nell attended Matthews Elementary School, Allen Jr. High School, Austin High School and The University of Texas at Austin from which she received a Masters Degree in Education. One of the highlights of her high school days was that she played in the school band and went to many football games with her friends. Nell taught first grade at Palm Elementary School for eighteen years and then became a school counselor. She loved all her pupils and has proudly kept in touch with a student, Margot Perez-Greene, who has been so successful and achieved a Doctorate Degree, and is now a minister at Tarrytown United Methodist Church in Austin.
Nell loved life, family, Christmas holidays and traveling. She with her husband Dick took many road trips to various parts of the U.S. and Mexico and also took several wonderful cruises in the Caribbean which they thoroughly enjoyed.
After leaving teaching, Nell and Dick opened a party and gift store in north Austin and named it THE
PARTY PIG, which she always had dreamed of doing and was a lot of fun to operate but also entailed a tremendous amount of work and responsibility. Nell and Dick kept the store for twelve years, after which she retired.
Nell and Dick Schotz have been members of Central Christian Church for 54+ years.
Nell was pre-deceased by her parents, several aunts and uncles, cousins, Jim and Mickie Maufrais and daughter, Leesa and many friends which she dearly loved.
She is survived by Dick, her loving husband of fifty four years; cousins, Evelyn Johnson, her children and grandchildren, Virginia and Hap Appleman, their children and grandchildren, Wilma Nell and Ed Ethridge, their children and grandchildren, Jennifer and Jeff Maufrais Kelly, Pat and Jinx Maufrais, Becky Leggett, Alberta Shelton, children and grandchildren, Jeff and Lara Maufrais and daughter, Morgan, and Chuck Maufrais; sister in law, Helen Schotz; brothers-in-law, Harry, Albert and Charles Schotz and children Mark and Stephannie.
