Nicholas Herman Porterfield died in Austin on May 12, 2009, at the age of 47. Nick was born to Dusty and Irene Porterfield on July 12, 1961, in Bellevue, Nebraska, near Offutt Air Force Base where his father was an USAF Colonel. Growing up in a military family, Nick lived in the US and abroad. Nick was intelligent, quit-witted, and charming. He was well-read, well-travelled, and well-educated. There were few things that Nick could not accomplish. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Science in physics and from the College of Law at the University of Utah with a Juris Doctor. After practicing law in Salt Lake City, Nick returned to Austin where he put his background in science to work as a database design consultant. Nick is preceded in death by his beloved father, Herman (Dusty) Porterfield. He is survived by his mother Irene Estasinopoulou Porterfield, and was proud of his Greek heritage. Nick is also survived by his two sons, Xander and Lucas, and his brother and sister-in-law, Stephen and Chris. Services will be held at 4 p.m., Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar in Austin, TX.
