

Norma Alma Coers, age 98, passed away July 21, 2010. She was born on February 24, 1912 to Gustav Schubert and Alma Voss Schubert in the German community of Galle, Texas and was raised nearby on a cotton farm in Zorn, Texas. She married Roy Helmuth Coers July 20, 1935.
Norma and Roy moved to Austin in 1946 where they settled into Austin life and raised their family. An avid gardener, Norma lived every season of her life to the absolute fullest. Norma was a member of St. Martin’s Lutheran Church for over 60 years. She enjoyed her friends from St. Martin’s, the Lydia and Elizabeth Circles, the Austin Saengerrunde, and her wonderful neighbors. She was a good wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers and in 1993 by her loving husband Roy. She is survived by her brother Monroe Schubert and wife Verlin; children Patricia Smith and husband Don, Don Coers and wife Lynda, and Mary Coers-Solis; grandchildren Charles Smith, Debra Smith Rourke (James), Gregory Smith, James Coers (Kim), Susanna Byram (Scott), Nicholas Solis and Marcos Solis; great-grandchildren Morgan and Mason Byram, Jim III and Justin Rourke and many relatives and friends.
The family wishes to thank her loving caregivers Ellie, Lucy, Elaine, Nelda and Dolores for such excellent care, the drivers from Faith in Action Caregivers West Austin and Hospice Austin for their care and support.
Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. followed by funeral services at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church, 606 West 15th Street. Interment will follow at Austin Memorial Park on Hancock Drive.
