Norma Viola Escobar Contreras, 77, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many, went home to her Lord and Savior on October 26, 2024, surrounded by her family.
Norma was born in Escobares, Texas on July 6, 1947 to Santos and Paula Escobar. She was a graduate of Roma High School, Class of 1966, where she flourished in many school-sponsored activities, but most proud of her years in the Gladiator Band where she served as first-chair clarinet and Drum major. It was during this time where she became a life-long member of the Golden Girls in the Valley.
Her move to Austin, Texas, to attend Nixon Clay College in 1967 was destined to be her new home away from home, essentially trading Starr County for Travis County. In Austin she worked and retired from the Texas Education Agency and the Austin Independent School District.
Norma is preceded in death by her parents, siblings Mary, Rachel, Roy, and Rudy. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Felix, daughter Mia (Brian), sons Jason (Brenda), and Justin. and the pride of her life, grandchildren Tristan, Braden, Dylan, Dustin, Logan, Liliana, Rylan, Quinn, and Bronson.
A special heartfelt thanks to her sisters-in-law, Delia, Vangie, Carolyn, and Lydia and cousins, Emma and Arba, and friend Mary.
A visitation for Norma will be held Sunday, November 3, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Weed-Corley-Fish South Chapel, 2620 South Congress Avenue, Austin, Texas 78704 with a recitation of the holy rosary at 7:00 PM.
