Norma Gonzales Yanez

Norma Yanez, born on January 6, 1953, in San Antonio, Texas, passed away in her home in Austin, Texas on July 17, 2024. She is survived by her husband, Juan Villa; daughters, Andrea Medaglia, Kelly Apilado, Amanda Rodriguez, Juanita Siegel; and her eight grandchildren.

Norma was a woman of remarkable intellect and dedication. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Education from St. Mary’s University and continued her professional development, later receiving a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Texas at San Antonio. A lifelong educator, Norma devoted her career to shaping young minds as both a teacher and school administrator.

She was a lover of animals and nature, always finding joy in the simplest pleasures. Norma delighted in taking in fresh air during her walks, and her laughter was a constant, infectious presence. She never took herself too seriously, embracing humor and engaging in playful banter with those around her.

In the kitchen, Norma was a master, especially during the holidays when she would spend hours baking sweet treats that brought warmth and joy to our home. Her cooking was a labor of love, reflecting her inner beauty and generosity.

Above all she was a true beauty, inside and out. She taught us that love is never-ending and that real strength takes real courage. Her life was a testament to these values, radiating kindness and resilience in everything she did. Her greatest lesson to us was that a mother's love never dies. Her spirit, wisdom, and love will live on in our hearts until we meet again.

-Visitation and Rosary: Monday, July 29, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM (Rosary at 6:00 PM) at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home, Austin, Texas.

-Funeral Mass: Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at 10:00 AM at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, Austin, Texas.
