Oran Wayne Schroeder passed peacefully on Tuesday, October 16, 2018. Born in Austin, Texas, on May 7, 1942, Wayne spent the majority of his lifetime in Austin, attending McCallum High School and the University of Texas, where he pursued an education in accounting. While at the University of Texas, fate took him on a blind date where he met, Sharon, his wife of 52 years.
During his time as a U.S. Navy Pilot, he was stationed in Pensacola, FL, Meridian, MS, and Kingsville, TX. His love of flying led him to the Navy and then he pursued that passion later in life in his beloved glider plane. His happy place was always outdoors; his soul smiled when he was in the hill country or spending time at the deer lease.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Sharon, son Matt and his wife Georgina Schroeder of Austin, TX, and daughter Emily and her husband Chris Garza of Houston, TX; his grandchildren Kennedy Garza, Grant Garza, Julia Schroeder, Ben Schroeder and Katherine Schroeder; his sister Donna and her husband Billy Hurley. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Adelene Schroeder, his brother, Michael Schroeder, and his son, Monte Lee Schroeder.
At the end of his battle with cancer, Wayne received impeccable care from Hospice Austin. One of his favorite charities was The 100 Club, benefitting the families of fallen and critically injured first responders. The family asks that any gifts be made as donations in Wayne’s honor to those organizations that help so many: www.hospiceaustin.org or www.100clubcentex.com.
