Parmely Thomas Ferrie, of Austin, Texas, the second of two children to James Howard Ferrie and Burdette Goldrick Ferrie, passed peacefully into Spirit on December 31, 2012. Born on October 30, 1924 in Cleveland, Ohio, he is survived by his six children (Pamela Estabrook, Christine Estabrook, James MacEgan, Eileen Ramsey, Thomas MacEgan and Catherine Schwanke), fifteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
An alumnus of Cathedral Latin High School in Cleveland, Ohio, Parm graduated in 1942, and earned the Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering from Case Institute of Technology in 1951. He took his Masters’ Degree in Business Administration from San Diego State University in 1976.
On his 18th birthday in 1942, Parm enlisted in the Army Air Corp. As a pilot, Lt. Ferrie flew the B-24 Liberator in the European Theater for the duration of WWII. He baled out during one mission and sent his parachute home to Cleveland to his fiancé, Rosemary Catherine Egan, who had it made into her wedding dress.
Parm and Rosemary were married on July 27, 1946 in Cleveland, Ohio, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Their union produced six children, fifteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Parm was greatly admired in industry, working primarily in the field of nuclear energy. A highlight of his career was working for Babcock and Wilcox Company on the first nuclear-powered Submarines, and later with commercial power plants and co-generation power plants.
