Loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Patricia Shepherd Baker, passed away peacefully to her forever home at the age of 93 on Monday, December 20, 2021 in Austin, Texas. Patty was born in Houston, Texas on June 19, 1928, to Eugene James Shepherd and Edith Johnson Shepherd. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John H. Baker, and grandsons Tyler R. Nance and J. R. Eastberg.
Patty, Mom, Gran, is survived by her brother Eugene B. Shepherd and his wife, Marilyn and their children Gene, Jim and John; her children Edith Nance and her husband Billy and their children Ashley, Kelley, Will and Justin; Gene Richards and his wife Jan and their children Kristen and Laura; Pattie McDonald and her husband Bob and their children Scott and Andrew; Mary Eastberg and her husband John and their children Emily and Charlie; Trudie Richards; her stepsons John Baker and his wife Sharlyn and their children Rob and Alison and Tom Baker; and her cousins, Audrey Dillon and Beverly Watson.
She was “Gran” to 14 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
Patty went to the University of Texas and was an avid Longhorn fan, especially when it came to watching her daughter, Trudie, play basketball and volleyball for UT and her grandson, Charlie, play the drums in the marching band. Patty was a member of the Junior League of Houston and Austin and a member of the Settlement Club of Austin. She was a member of Saint Matthews Episcopal Church where she was director of the Altar Guild, taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. Patty was a lady with great faith and trust in God and she had a special place in her heart for her Bible Study Fellowship and Community Bible Study groups.
The family wants to extend their heartfelt thanks to the caregivers, nurses and staff at The Pavilion at Great Hills and to Dr. Fry and her team at Austin Geriatric Specialists who worked so diligently to keep mom healthy and happy.
Mom‘s passions were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and the beach. She loved everything about the sand and the ocean. She collected sand in bottles from every beach she (or her kids) went to. After all... A little sand in your sandwich never killed anybody and talcum powder was the key to every successful beach adventure.
Mom, your presence will be missed, but never forgotten. Those you left behind are blessed to know that “all is well with your soul!” Patty and John’s ashes will be interred at St. Matthews Episcopal Church in Austin.
