Patricia Elaine Ferris of Atlanta, Georgia passed away peacefully on April 4, 2011. Patricia was born May 26, 1931 to Jeanette and Lewis Reider of Marshalltown, Iowa. She spent her formative years in Marshalltown, graduating from Marshalltown High School in 1950. Although an only child, Patricia had a strong bond with Maxyne Groner, her first cousin. Together they were best friends and “sisters”. Patricia attended the University of Iowa and after graduation, moved to Waco, Texas, and then to Austin, Texas. She married Allen Golden and had three children, Elyse (Golden) Blair of Marietta, GA., Debbie (Golden) Glazer of Dunwoody, Ga., and Bruce Golden of Austin, Texas. Patricia was a mother and friend to be cherished, always available to listen and help, and always providing much love and support for those around her. A great conversationalist, she never knew a stranger. Pat enjoyed having guests over and making them feel right at home. Pat was very active with Hadassah, the Travis County Democratic Party and was President of Temple Beth Israel’s Sisterhood. As her children grew older, Patricia decided to go back to school to become a nurse. What a natural fit nursing was for someone as caring and loving as Pat. Patricia met and married William Ferris in 1982 and for many years lived a quiet life in Onalaska, Texas. They both found common interests in creating art and reading and enjoying their retirement. Her six grandchildren all enjoyed going to “Nanny’s” house for the next creative adventure. After William’s passing, Pat moved to Atlanta, Ga. to be near her two daughters and four grandsons. The families cherishing Patricia’s memory are: Elyse and Ken Blair, Debbie and Jerry Glazer, Bruce and Sharon Golden. Grandchildren, Bradley and Alyssa Blair of Jacksonville, Florida, Michael Blair of Marietta, Georgia, Bryan Golden of Chicago, Ill., David Glazer of Dunwoody, Georgia, Stephen Glazer of Dunwoody, Georgia and Rebecca Golden of Austin, Texas. Maxyne Groner, Patricia’s dear cousin, from Austin, Texas also mourns her passing. Her great-granddaughter, Millie Blair will hear all the wonderful stories about her lovely, beautiful, Nanny.
Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Jeanette Reider, and her husband, William Ferris. We would like to give special thanks to Patricia’s caregiver Carlton Spencer and her Hospice nurse – Sharon Hopper. Your love and care will always be appreciated.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at the Agudas Achim Cemetery at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery, located at 2800 Hancock Drive. Memorials may be directed to United Hospice Atlanta, 1626 Jeurgens Ct., Norcross, Georgia 30093 or Congregation Beth Israel Sisterhood, 3901 Shoal Creek Blvd., Austin, Texas 78756.
