Patti Jo Kimberlin, loving Mother, Grandmother and friend passed away on June11th. She was 74 years old and never lost the ability to live each day to the fullest. Patti Jo was a woman who embraced life, and she lived her own with grace, dignity and humor. In times of joy she shared her gifts of love and creativity without reserve, and in times of hardship she faced down every problem with unique strength and positivity. Even as her health provided challenges that most would find impossible, Patti Jo never gave up doing as much she could each day and inspired us all to do the same. Her strength is an inspiration to all of us who loved her so dearly.
An amazing woman, she had so many gifts to share. Patti loved to create, and her craftwork brought joy to many. She was an indomitable force in the kitchen where she shared her many wonderful recipes with her extended family and knew how to make any gathering of friends a special occasion. Even when she was weak and in pain, no request for one of her special dishes ever went unfulfilled.
A lover of travel, even as her health and energies were waning, Patti Jo would pack up and go anywhere appealing with a huge smile. Having traveled the world and lived in many exotic locales, we cherished the times that we could all gather around and hear her stories about those days. This woman could make you laugh out loud at the customs of Norwegian dignitaries and the challenges of making London or Indonesia seem like home for her beloved family. In schooling her children on the etiquette involved with attending important business dinners, one piece of advice stood out…”Remember, if there’s a spoon or fork on top of your place setting, that means you’re getting dessert!”
Patti Jo loved the Astros and college football. We all enjoyed her occasionally salty comments while watching her favorite teams as it contrasted with her unfailingly ladylike demeanor in almost all situations. Her patriotism and Native American ancestry walked hand in hand. Patti always had a heartfelt respect for her country and her heritage, as evidenced by the themes she chose in her creative endeavors. Dream catchers and flag motifs were both displayed proudly in her home.
Born in Ada, Oklahoma, Patti Jo is the daughter of the late Haskell Martin Ford and Huel Ann Ford. She is survived by her brothers Martin Joseph Ford and Bob Haskell Ford, as well as her loving children, Karen Kaye Kimberlin and Richard Dean Kimberlin, his wife Nancy and her cherished grandchildren Kevin and Conner Kimberlin. She had also many “adopted” children and grandchildren. Patti never met a child that she didn’t take into her heart and many of us consider her to be our “Texas Mom.” Her unique perspective on life, legendary sense of humor and sage advice will be missed by many. We would all ask that you join us in celebrating her life.
