

Paul Gutierrez Reyes was called home by his Lord and Savior on May 21, 2008. He was born February 10, 1924 in Austin, Texas. Mr. Reyes is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sara Quintanilla Reyes; daughter, Rebecca Reyes Ligon; and granddaughter, Maria Alexandria Ligon. Other survivors include his nephews, Ben Sifuentes, David Martinez, Joe Reyes, Jr. and Jerry Reyes; brother-in-law, Jose V. Quintanilla; nieces, Margaret Alonzo and Mary Esther Aleman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Paul Reyes and Guadalupe Gutierrez Reyes; brothers, James Reyes, Joe Reyes and Nash Moreno; and by his sisters, Alice Reyes and Clotilde Sifuentes. Mr. Reyes was a lifelong Austin resident. To help support his family Paul left elementary school at approximately 3rd grade. Though he never completed any additional schooling, he was able to enroll at the University of Texas at Austin and earned a Bachelor of Science in Government and Political Science in only three years. Paul went on to complete a Master of Science in Community and Regional Planning, also from the University of Texas at Austin. He was an Urban Renewal Planner with the City of Austin and went on to become Director of the Division of Comprehensive Planning for the State of Texas. Mr. Reyes was an avid hunter and enjoyed spending time at his ranch in Oakalla, Texas. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 24th at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, with services beginning at 1:00 p.m. in the Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel. Our loving husband, father and grandfather will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Isaiah 26:3, 4: "He will keep in perfect peace all those who trust in him, whose thoughts turn often to the Lord! Trust in the Lord God always, for in the Lord Jehovah is your everlasting strength. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Salvation Army or to your favorite charity.
