
Pauline Grace Scallorn Pauline Grace Scallorn died Monday, June 2, 2008, in Austin, Texas. Polly was born at Upton, Texas, October 12, 1936, to Paul and Gladys Easley Scallorn. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law, David Meadows. Polly graduated from Smithville High School and Nixon Clay Business College. She was employed by the Austin Chamber of Commerce from January 1955 until January 1995 when she was forced to retire because of ill health. During her employment with the Chamber Polly was instrumental in starting several important projects: Crime Stoppers, Adopt-a-School, Bergstrom-Austin Community Council; Military Affairs Council, Business Committee for the Arts and Leadership Austin. She was the Executive Director of Leadership Austin from its inception in 1979 until she suffered a brain aneurysm in October, 1994. The Polly Scallorn Community Trustee Award is given each year to an alumnus of a Leadership Austin Essential Class who exemplifies the principles of community, inclusion, collaborative decision- making, and personal responsibility over a lifetime of achievement. Polly had many friends in the Austin business community and loved her work dearly. She was a member of Hyde Park Baptist Church. Polly is survived by her sister, Naomi Meadows; niece, Cyndie Holmes and husband Paul; great-niece, Bailey M'Lynn Holmes; and great-nephew, Hunter McLain Holmes. She is also survived by numerous cousins and many, many friends all of whom she loved very much. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 5, 2008 at the Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 North Lamar Blvd., Austin, Texas, with interment following at the Young School House Cemetery near Smithville, Texas, Reverend Dan Gardner will officiate. Serving as pallbearers will be Carl Easley, Dan Easley, Paul Holmes, John Scallorn, Richard Scallorn and Charles Williams. Honorary pall bearers will be Hunter Holmes, Charles Scallorn, Don Scallorn, J. R. Scallorn, Mike Wells and Rick Wells. Memorial contributions may be made to the Polly Scallorn Leadership Austin Scholarship Fund, 1609 Shoal Creek Blvd., Austin, Texas 78701; Hyde Park Baptist Church, 3901 Speedway, Austin, Texas 78751; or a charity of your choice.
